When I was wanting to lose weight and maximize my nutrition, I learned about Dr. Brooke Goldner. She’s a doctor that healed her lupus from eating a high dose of omega-3’s and cruciferous vegetables. She created an easy way to get these ingredients into the body by making a smoothie. I decided to start drinking a version of that smoothie every day, and my fibromyalgia went away completely.

Little did I know I was developing Hodgkin’s lymphoma during the time of starting this smoothie journey. The smoothie didn’t heal my cancer, but it did keep me from having all the common symptoms that come with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I continued the smoothie through treatment, and still drink it to this day. I lost 20 pounds, and I’ve kept the weight off for almost 2 years now. The best part, I feel amazing and symptom free!

What is in the daily 3-ingredient green smoothie?

What You’ll Need

  • Chia Seeds: chia seeds provide the omega-3s. Flaxseeds can also be used
  • Dark Leafy Greens: The power greens (spinach, kale, Swiss chard) is what we use, but just spinach works too.
  • Frozen Fruit: blueberries pack a punch of antioxidants, but frozen pineapple is a great alternative.
  • Water: no need to use any other liquid because water works best. You can add a scoop of electrolyte powder to the blender to add more flavor.

To make my smoothies I have used a Blendtec and Vitamix blender. These are both powerful blenders and both do an amazing job at blending these ingredients into smooth smoothies. I now use the 5200 Vitamix and it’s my absolute favorite. It makes the most velvety smooth sauces and smoothies and I highly recommend the investment. It’s an investment to feel good and hopefully achieve amazing health results, which is what I personally experienced.

Benefits of drinking a green smoothie

If you have inflammation, this smoothie helps reduce inflammation. If you have an auto-immune disease, this smoothie can help elevate symptoms and possibly heal the auto-immune disease like it did for Dr. Brooke Goldner and myself.

Chia seeds – a wonderful form of omega-3’s, protein, and fiber which support brain health, digestion, and repairing muscles. What fights inflammation is the antioxidants and minerals found in chia seeds. Flaxseeds are another option for these amazing health benefits, but chia seeds are my favorite.

Dark green leafy vegetables – nature’s multi-vitamin for the ultimate healing powers. Dark greens are the ultimate for cellular repair, as they contain vitamin K, A, C, and folate. These greens also contain powerful anti-oxidants like beta-carotene, which really helps reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. If you want a natural glow, without the use of tanning lotions, just eat a lot of greens! They have more beta-carotene than carrots! Plus, if you want to age gracefully, these greens help detoxify the liver and improve your skin’s texture.

Blueberries – my favorite berry for reducing inflammation with its anti-oxidant called, anthocyanin. Blueberries are an excellent food for regulating blood sugar levels and support immune function with a high dose of vitamin C and K.

These ingredients should be the staple foods of our daily diet and the easiest way to consume them is in a smoothie. The more you drink, the better you’ll feel from all the vitamins and minerals. This smoothie keeps me from getting sick, and helps sustain my immune system.

Daily 3-Ingredient Island Green Smoothie

By Aimee Guess
Smoothies are a great way to get hyper-nourishment in an easy form. The daily 3-ingredient green smoothie includes chia seeds, dark green leafy vegetables, and frozen blueberries (can sub pineapple).
Serving Size 1 person

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 5-6 cups packed down power greens spinach, kale, Swiss chard (or just spinach)
  • 1-2 cups frozen blueberries or pineapple
  • 1 scoop electrolyte mix optional – adds to flavor
  • water enough to cover greens in the blender

Instructions

  • In a high speed blender, add chia seeds and 1/4 cup water. This gives the chia seeds a chance to absorb the liquid and aid in digestion.
  • Add greens to smoothie. Pack them down. This should be an excessive amount of greens and fill most of the blender.
  • Add electrolyte mix, if adding. This enhances flavor and helps people who need additional electrolytes. We enjoy Just Ingredients brand Tropical flavor.
  • Add frozen berries. If blueberries are not available, frozen pineapple can be used.
  • Fill the blender up with filtered water to the top of the greens.
  • Blend on high speed for at least 1 minutes. 2 minutes is best and insures all the greens are completely liquified.
  • Drink the whole smoothie. This is a single serving. See notes for more details.

Notes

If this smoothie is too much for you, then start with half the ingredients to make the smoothie and build up your stamina from there. My husband drinks 70 ounces of this smoothie every day. I drink 40 ounces and share the rest with my kids.
When I was in the thick of my cancer journey, I drank 70 ounces per day as well.
This smoothie is safe for children to drink. My kids drink at least 1 cup every day with breakfast.
*If this smoothie is not sweet enough, add 1-2 cups of juice in place of the water. As you get used to the flavor of this smoothie, you can back off on the juice. The key is drinking the smoothie and getting in the nutrients from the chia seeds and greens. The blueberries are an added bonus!
